LEARN HOW TO FLY GYROPLANES

A gyroplane certificate is required to fly a gyroplane by yourself or with passengers. We offer multiple levels of certification whether you are a private pilot, have experience in rotorcraft or are aspiring to become a pilot.

An existing pilot with a minimum of a sport pilot rating may operate a gyroplane after obtaining a gyroplane endorsement on their existing pilot license. This will require training with a gyroplane CFI who will then give an endorsement that indicates that you have met the requirement. The next step will be for you to then train with a different CFI who will conduct a proficiency check based on the knowledge and proficiency requirements that the first CFI instructed you on.

Upon successful completion of this, a logbook endorsement will allow you to operate within this category as a Gyroplane Sport Pilot. On average most pilots can complete this add-on training in 10 – 20 hours.

TYPES OF CERTIFICATES

GYROPLANE SPORT PILOT

A complete course for aspiring pilots. The end qualification will be the Sport Pilot Certificate for Gyroplane.

Requirements:

Must be at least 17 years old
Medical certificate Not required (no previous denials)
Possess a current state drivers license
20 hours of flight time (15 hours training, 5 hours solo)
Complete a course of ground instruction with a Flight Instructor
Must pass a multiple choice FAA Knowledge Exam
Must pass a practical exam (Flight Testing and Oral Exam)

20 hours (FAR min required)

GYROPLANE PRIVATE PILOT

*Recommended – A complete course for aspiring pilots. The end qualification will be the Private Pilot Certificate for Gyroplane.

Requirements:
Must be at least 17 years old
Acquire an FAA Third Class Medical Certificate or comply with BasicMed
40 hours of flight time (20 hours training, 10 hours solo)
Complete a course of ground instruction with a Flight Instructor
Must pass a multiple choice FAA Knowledge Exam
Must pass a practical exam (Flight Testing and Oral Exam)

Flight Time

40 hours (FAR min required)

GYROPLANE COMMERCIAL PILOT

Held to a higher standard, this certificate is a prerequisite for those aspiring to be a flight instructor. The end qualification will be the Commercial Pilot Certificate for Gyroplane.

Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years old
Acquire an FAA Third Class Medical Certificate
150 Hours of Total Flight Time as a pilot (25 hours of which must be in gyroplane)
100 hours of pilot-in -command flight time (10 hours pilot-in-command in gyroplane)
3 hours in cross-country flight in gyroplanes
20 hours of training on the areas of operation listed in CFR 61.127(b)(4)
10 hours of solo flight time in a gyroplane or 10 hours of flight time performing the duties of pilot-in-command in a gyroplane with an authorized instructor on board on the areas of operation listed in CFR 61.127(b)(4)
Must pass a multiple choice FAA knowledge exam
Must pass a practical exam (Flight Testing and Oral Exam)

Flight Time

150 hours of flight time as a pilot
Because many hours of flight time in other aircraft can apply towards the 150 hour the actual time required will vary greatly from individual to individual.

GYROPLANE CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR

As a certified teacher of gyroplane you will be able to get paid for passing on the knowledge of how to safely fly these amazing machines.
The end qualification will be the Certified Flight Instructors Certificate for Rotorcraft Gyroplane

Prerequisite: Gyroplane Commercial Pilot Certificate

We teach only to the highest internationally recognized standards through collaborative efforts with the FAA, IAPGT, PRA and Gyropedia. Our instructors have decades of experience flight instructing and operating in the entire domestic scope of airspace from the traffic pattern and up into the highest flight levels.

GYROPEDIA

The Gyropedia delivers online training material to support all our core Gyroplane Pilot and Gyroplane Instructor training courses and our ongoing Pilot Development and Instructor Development processes. It is an online web portal that contains videos, animated computer graphics, lesson plan diagrams and presentations that are elements of a pilot’s and an instructor’s toolkit as part of a worldwide integrated and standardized gyroplane training platform, The Gyropedia is accessed at Gyropedia.com.

IAPGT

The International Association of Gyroplane Training (IAPGT) is an Association of people who fly, build or regulate Gyroplanes, who have a dream of a single Gyroplane pilot license accepted in every country around the world, and a community of Gyroplane Pilots who are free from accidents. Gyroplane Flying Instructors, in addition to teaching the minimum standards prescribed by the regulator in the country in which they are operating, can opt-in to the IAPGT framework. This means they are working in accordance with the IAPGT Voluntary Code of Practice.

PRA

The Popular Rotorcraft Association, which we like to call just “PRA,” is a group of people who love gyroplanes and helicopters, some build and fly themselves. These rotorcraft enthusiasts get together to exchange ideas, information and help. They promote safety and can help with flight training.

FAA

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is the agency of the United States Department of Transportation responsible for the regulation and oversight of civil aviation within the U.S., as well as operation and development of the National Airspace System. Its primary mission is to ensure safety of civil aviation.
